It's the Tiny Things - Find Your Creative Fire
A week of enchantment ✨🌙
Tiny Things is a weekly moment of something that delighted me. Each week, I share one small thing – because life is really made of the little moments.
This week has been full of tiny delights. During the holidays, enchantment is at every turn. But how do we find it all year-round?
My sixteen-year-old daughter was counting down the days until winter break. Finals week arrived, and with it, the cold that seemed to be circulating through her school. But it was finals week, so everyone showed up anyway.
Then Christmas week began. Boxes poured in. Wrapping paper rolls were thinning down.
She asked me not to throw anything away. To stack the shipping boxes. To save the nearly empty rolls of wrapping paper. To hand over the empty food packaging.
And the day after classes ended, she began.
How do we know where to begin? How do our hands guide us? Why do some things simply pour out of us – like magic?
When we are little, we create and imagine all day long, without apology.
As teenagers, we experiment. We try on identities. We challenge. We search for who we might become.
And then we become adults. Sometimes, we lose that curiosity. We begin to monetize our interests. We decide what is “responsible” for an adult to spend their time on. Wonder begins to fade.
It took her two days.
A pile of recycling.
Some muslin.
Mod Podge.
A glue gun.
She paired her creation with a quote by Oscar Wilde:
“Nowadays people know the price of everything and the value of nothing.”
When I look at the future through her eyes, I don’t worry so much.
We are all born with the desire to create. At some point, that impulse may have been ignored. But when we tap back into the things that truly matter to us, something powerful awakens – an unstoppable energy that drives us to make meaningful things. Things that reach people. Inspire people. Connect us to others who see the world through that same golden light.
I hope this coming year invites you to create more freely. To be curious. To make time to sit and see what might flow from you if you give it space.
Until Next Time 🌙 ✨
Kim

Starting in January, I’m introducing The Field Guide to You – a new, deeper experience created especially for paid members. It’s an invitation to slow down, look inward, and reconnect with what lights you up. I hope you will join us.

Creativity flows in your family!
This week my Tiny Thing is something I've wanted to do all my life. Now that I'm older and my time is my own, I wake up before everyone else and I read. Reading leisurely is a luxury. My children are young adults and my husband sleeps in now-a-days. I have energy to wake with the sun and it's calming during this point in my life. Thank you Kim, for the opportunity to think about the Tiny Things.
Wow! I am so impressed by your daughters creativity and perspective and imagination. Truly beautiful. 😍
