When I was a very young child, we used to go to Mom's family's farm in the summer. I used to LOVE going out into the pasture early in the very early morning when it was still cold, and the cows were still sleeping, and I'd drape myself across one until she was ready to get up. They were always so careful with me, these big lumbering beasts, but I had to sneak because my mom (a city girl) was afraid I'd get hurt. This post took me back to my childhood and reminded me why I have such a soft spot for cows.

Awe, what a wonderful memory. I think I would love to do that now. 😊

I grew up on 80 acres with cows and pigs. Thank you for bringing a touch of home to me. I have lived in Orange County for 42 years and no cows in my neighborhood! 🤪

That must have been a wonderful childhood!

Beautiful. I'm inspired to visit. We are not far, and I have been following and donating to the gentle barn for years -- had no idea I could visit until I read your loving piece. That your husband was so loving tells me so much about YOU and him. Thank you for writing with clarity and poise.

Oh you have to go! They open to the public on Sundays. So worth a visit. We are big animal lovers. 😊
