The Twin Cities is my hometown. While I live far away from there now, the cities are never far from my heart. It's been really hard to watch what has been going on there. Art is my outlet, my expression and my resistance.

I've never been there, but reading so many accounts and stories, and watching videos, is just heartbreaking. Such a wonderful community. I hope to see it someday - in the summer. 😊

Thank you for your post! I appreciate your thoughts on keeping up with your art, although it feels weird to in the state the country is in. My tiny thing this week was that a beautiful blue heron landed in front of me on a walk and I got to see its amazing wing span. 🪶

Herons are so beautiful. They feel mythical.

I get it. When trauma hits our body, we tend to shut down. And art comes from a tuning in and a flow we feel. Stress can really cut us off from that. But the act of making art, just beginning, takes us out of that zone, and gives us an outlet to vent all that rage, sadness, and unrest. Sometimes, I just have to force myself to sit an do it. And I feel so much better when I do.

I love how you put this. I have felt similar, not wanting to deal with politics that remind people that the world is also beautiful. But, there has been a tipping point. After dreaming about it in the night, I spent yesterday creating a small textile sculpture to show support.

I love that a dream inspired you. We often get messages in our dreams. I read a study the other day that neuroscientists found people could communicate in dream states. That information was exchanged in their subconscious. So fascinating. I think every small act matters. And it makes us feel connected to express it. If you feel comfortable, you should share it when you are done. I would love to see it. ☺️

Dreams are so interesting! I absolutely resonate with what you write about communicating while in dream state. Years ago, my cousin and I, who lived a continent apart at the time (night at her place was daytime where I lived) experimented with reading each others mind. It was really fascinatibg what turned up! As for my tiny sculpture, you can see it if you check my posts.

Oh, Kim. My tiny thinking this post. Your words are beautiful, your art is beautiful, and the art you shared is beautiful. Thank you. I wrote something similar (though not nearly as well written) about the writing community on my website blog. I have to figure out how to transfer it over to Substack.
