It's the Tiny Things - The Moon
Just a glimpse ✨🌙
The rains have dominated our landscape since Christmas Eve here in Los Angeles. I’m not complaining. I love the moody landscape and the smell of damp earth. I take long walks in the rain. I love the tap-tap of the rain hitting my window. And in the mornings, it welcomes all the snails.
But then I realized I wasn’t going to get a view of the Wolf Moon. The first supermoon of the year was about to come on the horizon. The best time to view a full moon is right at dusk. It is like a supernatural orb coming up behind the mountains. I’ve officially become a moonchaser.
Yesterday, people on social media – people I didn’t even know – sent me photos of the full moon from all over the world. It delighted me. Here on Substack @penn shared a view from Wales:
I couldn’t sleep in this morning. I stumbled out of bed, made a cup of coffee, walked to my art desk, and pulled back the curtains. And there she was – big and bright, breaking through the clouds.
I slipped on my shoes, coffee in hand, and stepped out into the soft rain. Standing in the middle of my courtyard, I looked up at the full Wolf Moon. Then a gentle hoot, hoot from an owl echoed through the space. And just like that, the moon disappeared back into the clouds.
I don’t sleep so well these days. It is attributed to the fluctuating hormones of a midlife woman. I’ve learned to lean into it. Instead of lying in bed frustrated, I listen to a meditation. I light a candle and do some light yoga. I read a poem while cuddling with my dog on the couch. I catch glimpses of the moon that feels meant for me. If I were sleeping, I would have missed all of it.
I took a short video. At the end, if you listen closely, you can hear the owl in the end.
Until Next Time 🌙 ✨

P.S. Please leave a Tiny Thing below from your past week.

I’m in a rural part of the Northeast and we’ve had a fair amount of snow throughout December. This hasn’t stopped me from getting outside and going for my daily walks. I love the crunch of the snow under my feet and the quiet that snow brings to the earth.
My tiny thing this week was taking a short walk on my lunch break on Friday to the wooden bridge that crosses over the little dam in our downtown. I watched the water trickling over the dam, from underneath the ice formations. It is very cool to look at and I love the sound of rushing water.
