Let's create our Field Guide covers!
A little inspiration to begin✨
If you’re unsure what to put in your journal, start with a photo of yourself as a child – one you love. Snap a picture of it, print it small, and weave it into your collage.
Then pause and remember: what delighted you back then? What did you lose yourself in during elementary school, or even high school? What lit you up before you learned to second-guess it?
I don’t think what we love ever really changes – only how much we allow ourselves to indulge it. Somewhere along the way, we stop following the breadcrumbs. But those early loves? They’re clues. Little puzzle pieces that, when placed back together, guide us toward a life that feels more alive.
Is there something you loved when you were younger that you let go of? Something you wish you still made time for? For me, it was art. I used to love drawing nature. I set it aside for decades – but it turns out, it’s never too late to pick up where you left off.
Over winter break, I took my daughter to LACMA here in Los Angeles. It is a museum of modern art. While wandering the galleries, I unexpectedly came upon original Georgia O’Keeffe paintings. As a teenager, I had posters of her work covering my walls. Standing there, it felt like a quiet full-circle moment. I never fully understood why her work spoke to me back then – only that it did.
Now I see it more clearly. She was a kindred soul, gently whispering: see where your inspiration can take you. Follow the flowers.
I made my journal last night. I wanted to give you a peek into my creative process and where I begin. Because beginning is usually the hardest part. Then once you do, inspiration follows.
Inside The Field Guide to You, I share a behind-the-scenes look at my creative process and invite members to share their own work with the community. Membership is open all year – come by anytime you feel inspired!
