The Field Guide to You: August 2026
Dream catcher β¨ πΈ
I grew up listening to homemade mixtapes. At night, I'd slide a cassette into my boombox, press play, turn out the lights, and let the music carry me somewhere else. During the day, my Walkman went everywhere with me. Those songs became the soundtrack to the life I imagined for myself.
I think we all carry visions of the adults we hope to become. But sometimes we cling so tightly to those imagined futures that we miss the beautiful things along the way.
It is practice β to trust yourself. To let yourself go and see where the currents carry you. There is a delicate balance between pursuing what you long for and allowing lifeβs detours to lead you somewhere you never expected. After all, sometimes the universe has bigger dreams for us than we could ever dream up on our own.
The theme for July is: Dreams
What do you dream about?
I still make mixtapes. They now live on digital playlists on my phone.
But I use them differently than I did back then. They're no longer just the soundtrack to an imagined future β they are the gateway to a flow state β the place where the magic happens.
I recently bought a book on lucid dreaming. It reminded me how much mystery we carry within us, how much untapped magic waits beneath the surface. A world lives in each of us. Maybe our job, our entire existence, is to learn how to let it out.
And when we do, anything becomes possible.
I was triggered last week by something that reminded me of an old dream. It made me think that maybe we're not longing for the dream itself. Maybe we're longing for how we imagined it would make us feel.
