Tonight is the Pink Moon
A meditation to let go of the old and bring in the new
The Pink Moon is tonight. It is a full moon. It is named after a wildflower - the creeping phlox. It is considered a micromoon, it appears smaller in the sky. They began publishing the full moon names in The Old Farmer’s Almanac in the 1930s. These names came from Eastern Native American tribes. This moon was associated with spring and the early spring wildflowers that grew.
When the pink moon comes, it is said to be a time of renewal and rebirth - like all the new blooms that were dormant all winter. It is a time to let go of things that no longer serve us - like habits or thought patterns. It is a time to open yourself up to new possibilities.
We all find ourselves having thought patterns that no longer serve us, habits that we do daily without much thought. We tell ourselves this is it. It is who we are. Whether it is our health, our relationships, or our work. We don’t open ourselves up to the possibilities. We forget that opening ourselves up to the possibilities can change the trajectory of our lives. We make choices all day long. We speak about who we are and what we want. Those words and actions create a world around us. And while we don’t always have control over things that befall us, we do have control over how we see ourselves and show up in the world.
Tonight, take the time to do a Pink Moon Meditation. Make sure to step outside first, take a walk in the moonlight. It is quite magical watching a full moon on a spring night. I will list the steps I like to do, but you don’t need to make this fancy in any way. You only need a bit of quiet and to be fully present.
Light a candle (you are also welcome to light incense and grab your favorite crystal if that is your jam. But if you are new to this, just sitting alone in the silence is enough.)
Sit comfortably and take a few minutes to breathe deeply. I sometimes do box breathing (4 counts in, hold for 4 counts, 4 counts out, hold for 4 counts).
Imagine yourself up in the star-filled universe. You are floating weightless in a silent universe. You float closer to the moon. Until the glow surrounds you. As you get closer, you become enveloped by its glow - as if you are the moon.
Allow the thought or habit you wish to retire to come and float away into space. It disappears into the dark night sky. Every time you exhale, you release it. Each time you inhale, you make space for something new.
Allow the new thoughts to move in. What would you like to replace them? What new things would you like to focus on in the coming month? How would that feel in your body? Feel that. Set an intention for the next month. It can be one little thing. One little thing can change everything.
We are very visual beings. I usually like to sketch something afterward with a phrase on it. You don’t have to be an artist or a writer. It can be a sentence. Or maybe find a quote that resonates with you. Put it on a small card and place it where you will see it every day. Life gets busy, we easily fall back into patterns we don’t want. We have to be intentional. Leave a map for yourself. It is amazing what a little card can do to jolt you back to your meditation and what you desire. It is planting a seed for the future.
Until Next Time ✨,
Kim

I was at the coast and the moon was magnificent! I did your beautiful meditation and it was very uplifting. I am going to try to get back into mediating again, it really makes such a difference in my outlook on life. Thank you for the inspiration!
Up and outside at 4am! So beautiful . A gentle wisp of clouds in the sky too. And the birds just were waking up. Precious moments.
